Diesel engines have the highest thermal efficiency (engine efficiency) among any actual internal combustion engine or internal combustion engine, due to their very high expansion ratio and inherent lean combustion. Compared with two-stroke non direct injection gasoline engines, it also avoids small efficiency losses because unburned fuel does not exist at valve overlap, so there is no fuel directly entering the exhaust from the intake/injection.
